Andros Island Seminoles

 (Gullahs)

The Andros Island Seminoles (also known as the Andros Island Gullahs) are a descendant group of the South Floridian Black Seminoles. The ancestors of this group fled to the Bahamian Andros island following racial aggressions stemming from the forthcoming United States Civil War. Today this population is still on the island, in a settlement near the village of Red Bays and still hold strong to many of the cultural teachings of their ancestors including basket weaving.
